How do you perform – 3
How do you respond when you don’t understand what your interlocutor says?
When you encounter input that you don’t understand or that is ambiguous, you should try your best to respond in a polite and neutral manner, acknowledging the uncertainty.
Here are some possible ways I might respond:
1. “I apologize, but I’m having trouble understanding your question. Could you please rephrase or provide more context?”
2. “I’m sorry, I didn’t quite grasp that. Could you clarify or provide more details?”
3. “I’m not entirely sure what you mean. Can you elaborate on your point?”
4. “I do not fully understand your words or context. Could you please provide additional information?”
5. “I apologize for the interruption, but could you please repeat what you said? Thank you.”
6. “I would greatly appreciate it if you could kindly repeat what you said, as I didn’t quite catch it clearly. Thank you for your understanding.”
7. “If you don’t mind, could you please kindly repeat what you just said? I want to make sure I fully understand. Thank you.”
Here are some other possible ways you could respond:
8. “Could you please repeat that? I didn’t quite catch what you said.”
9. “I’m not sure I follow. Could you clarify what you mean by that?”
10. “Can you provide an example of what you’re talking about? I’m having difficulty visualizing it.”
11. “Could you spell that word for me? I’m not familiar with it.”
12. “Can you simplify that? I apologize, but I’m not familiar with the technical terms you used.”
