IELTS Advantage And Disadvantage Essay

An advantage and disadvantage essay:

1. A two-part essay
2. Write the main advantages and disadvantages of a particular thing, event, or situation.

IELTS advantages and disadvantages questions normally give you a statement and ask you to comment on the advantages and disadvantages of that statement. There are 2 different types of advantages and disadvantages essays and they each require a different approach. You should answer them in a different way.

There are 2 different types of advantages and disadvantages essays:

1. An informative essay where your opinion is not required.
2. An essay that requires your opinion.

Type 1

It is an informative essay where the advantages and disadvantages of a particular event or thing are discussed.

1. Here the essay will be to discuss the advantages and disadvantages.
2. It does not ask for our opinion or say which side is better or worse.
3. Make sure the points are valid for both sides.

NOTE

1. Do not suppose to speak in favour or disagree with the statement.
2. Should not include your opinion in the answer.

Example Question 1

In some countries, young people are encouraged to work or travel for a year between finishing high school and starting university studies.

Discuss the advantages and disadvantages for young people who decide to do this.
