An advantage and disadvantage essay:

2. Write the main advantages and disadvantages of a particular thing, event, or situation.
IELTS advantages and disadvantages questions normally give you a statement and ask you to comment on the advantages and disadvantages of that statement. There are 2 different types of advantages and disadvantages essays and they each require a different approach. You should answer them in a different way.
There are 2 different types of advantages and disadvantages essays:
- An informative essay where your opinion is not required.
- An essay that requires your opinion.
Type 1
It is an informative essay where the advantages and disadvantages of a particular event or thing are discussed.
- Here the essay will be to discuss the advantages and disadvantages.
- It does not ask for our opinion or say which side is better or worse.
- Make sure the points are valid for both sides.
NOTE
- Do not suppose to speak in favour or disagree with the statement.
- Should not include your opinion in the answer.
Example Question 1
In some countries, young people are encouraged to work or travel for a year between finishing high school and starting university studies.
Discuss the advantages and disadvantages for young people who decide to do this.
