How to Make Crispy Homemade French Fries?

Ingredients:

  • Russet potatoes
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Salt

Equipment:

  • Large bowl
  • Colander
  • Kitchen towel
  • Large pot or deep fryer
  • Thermometer (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the potatoes:
    • Peel the potatoes and cut them into even-sized sticks (about 1/2-inch thick).
    • Soak the potato sticks in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch. This helps achieve a crispier fry.
    • Drain the potatoes and pat them dry with a kitchen towel.
  2. Blanch the potatoes:
    • Heat oil in a large pot or deep fryer to 300°F (150°C).
    • Fry the potato sticks in batches for about 3-5 minutes until they are partially cooked but not browned.
    • Remove the potatoes from the oil and drain on paper towels. Let them cool completely.
  3. Fry the potatoes:
    • Increase the oil temperature to 375°F (190°C).
    • Fry the potatoes again in batches for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
    • Remove the fries from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  4. Season and serve:
    • Season the fries generously with salt.
    • Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
